Steel Industrial Carts
Our steel industrial carts feature an all-welded construction using 12 or 14 gauge steel shelves paired with thick angle posts. This extra heavy-duty design ensures superior quality and longevity, significantly outperforming lighter gauge, bolt-together carts available on the market. Our carts are rated to handle capacities ranging from 600 to 7,000 pounds, evenly distributed.
Stainless Steel Carts
For stainless steel applications, we use 304 and 316 grade tube and plate, which can be brushed or polished to enhance corrosion resistance. These materials are ideal for environments that demand high durability and resistance to harsh conditions.
Aluminum Carts
In aluminum carts, we typically use AL6061 and AL5052 alloys. These materials offer the advantage of being lightweight and corrosion-resistant, though they do not match the durability of steel carts.
Industrial Steel Cart Expertise – Essential Information
Industrial steel carts play a crucial role in any facility by facilitating the transportation and movement of materials to various locations. These carts not only provide transportation solutions but also enhance efficiency and worker productivity. Selecting the right cart involves considering several important factors to ensure you choose the correct size and configuration for your specific application. We will outline these factors in the following sections.
While many carts on the market today use lighter gauge steel and a bolt-together design, which may suffice for light-duty transportation, our welded steel carts are built to outlast and outperform them many times over throughout their lifespan. In simple terms, our carts are built like a tank!
Because our carts are fully welded, they arrive at your dock fully assembled and ready to roll off the skid. This eliminates downtime and installation hassles when you order an industrial cart from DC Graves.
Shelf Size and Lips
Selecting the proper shelf size ensures your cart can handle your materials effectively. We offer a variety of shelf sizes, from our smallest at 18” x 24” to our largest at 36” x 72”. Keep in mind that the shelf size refers to the usable inside dimensions. For example, a cart with a 24” x 36” shelf size will have an actual usable shelf width of 24” and length of 36”. Consequently, the overall dimensions of the steel carts will be slightly larger than the selected shelf size.
Please note that carts with a 36” width will not fit through standard doors.
Our 12-gauge steel shelves feature a 1-1/2” lip on all four sides. The shelves can be welded with the lips up for material retention or flipped for a smooth, flush work surface. Many carts have a flush top shelf and lips up on the bottom shelf for retention. This shelf configuration can be customized on most carts to suit your needs. In addition to the 1-1/2” lips, we offer heavy-duty industrial carts with 3”, 6”, or 12” deep lips for ultimate product retention.
Casters
Our casters are bolt-on, meaning they can be easily removed and replaced. Many carts on the market have casters welded directly to the cart. If a caster is damaged, those carts can become useless. DC Graves carts feature casters bolted onto channels underneath the bottom shelf, allowing for simple replacement if needed. This design ensures an extremely long life cycle for the carts.
The standard caster for most of our carts is a 5” diameter x 1-1/4” wide tread urethane caster. The standard set includes two swivel casters and two rigid casters. The swivels ensure easy maneuvering around corners, while the rigids provide stability for straight-line travel. Caster sets can be upgraded to an all-swivel configuration for increased maneuverability in tight spaces, though this may reduce straight-line stability. Additionally, you can add wheel brakes to two or all four casters to secure your cart in place.
We offer casters in various sizes and types, ranging from 4” x 1-1/4” to 12” x 3”. Common sizes include 5” x 2”, 6” x 2”, and 8” x 2”. Larger casters generally make carts easier to push.
While urethane casters are standard, we also offer Thermo-Rubber, Mold-On Rubber, Phenolic, Steel, Full and Semi-Pneumatic wheels. Please contact us to discuss the ideal caster for your application.
