Expertise in Carbon Fiber Manufacturing
Three Methods for Creating Carbon Fiber Parts
Manufacturing fiber-reinforced polymers, such as carbon fiber parts, is a skillful and labor-intensive process. The cycle time ranges from one hour to 150 hours, depending on the part’s size and complexity. The laminating process is crucial as it influences the performance of the final part. Here are the three main types of laminating techniques we use:
- Wet Lay-Up
- Fiber is cut and laid into the mold, and resin is applied via a brush, roller, or spray gun.
- Requires high skill to create quality parts.
- Cost-effective and suitable for DIY carbon fiber manufacturing.
- Prepreg Lamination
- Pre-impregnated sheets of fiber with resin are stored cold and cured in the mold under heat and pressure.
- More precise and repeatable but also the most expensive.
- Ideal for high-performance applications.
- Resin Transfer Molding (RTM)
- Dry fiber is placed in a two-part mold, which is then clamped shut before injecting resin at high pressure.
- Typically automated, suitable for large volume manufacturing.
Creating Molds for Carbon Fiber Parts with 3D Printing
Advantages of 3D Printed Molds
- Rapid Production: Quickly produce molds and patterns at low costs.
- Flexibility: Easily make design iterations and adjustments.
- Smooth Surface Finish: Essential for carbon fiber layup molds.
Application of 3D Printing
- Low-Volume Production: Ideal for creating small-scale production molds directly.
- Complex Geometries: Achieve fine details that are difficult with traditional methods.
- Material Properties: Use engineering materials with mechanical and thermal properties suited for mold and pattern manufacture.
Typical Kinds of Carbon Fiber Cloth
Carbon fiber cloth is a crucial component in creating high-quality composite parts. Here are the typical types we use:
-
-
- Unidirectional Cloth
- Fibers run in one direction.
- Provides high strength in a single direction.
- Ideal for reinforcing specific areas.
- Plain Weave Cloth
- Fibers are woven in an over-and-under pattern.
- Balanced strength in both directions.
- Easy to handle and drape over complex shapes.
- Twill Weave Cloth
- Fibers are woven in a diagonal pattern.
- Offers a slightly higher strength than plain weave.
- Attractive appearance and good drape.
- Unidirectional Cloth
-
We work with 1K, 3K, 6K, 12K fiber, T300, T700,T800,T1000, M40, M60 Grade…
And we provide carbon fiber parts combined with metal insert
